So it's almost May and in our house that means one very important thing--it's time for the Winnipeg Wine Festival. I look forward to this event even more than I look forward to breakfast every morning (that's a lot). It's our annual tradition. We get Granpeg to come by and watch Lil' Peg so Mister and I can enjoy some good couple time together as we swirl, sip... and eventually stumble.
There are lots of dinners and events during the week, but the real action, in my humble opinion, is during the Public Tastings on Saturday and Sunday. I've become a bit of a pro at this, and I highly recommend the Saturday afternoon session. It's a few bucks cheaper and it's usually not as busy as the evening tastings.
Wine in the afternoon, you say? Well the Italians do it, so it's good enough for me. (I might have made that part up about the Italians.)
The tastings are held at the Winnipeg Convention Centre and it is just a cornucopia of grape crushing delight. The room is arranged by country, with a feature country leading the charge each year. This year it's Canada (yay!) and the wines of BC and Ontario.
I suggest you download their handy guide and plan your attack. I used to have this friend who would mark the whole thing up with his recommendations and email it out every year, but I haven't heard from him in a while. I like to think he has such a good time one year, he just entered a higher plane of existence or something. Anyways... not sure what my point was there.
So, I guess it's this:
Go! Get your tickets now! All the info you need is right here.
Maybe we'll bump into you in amongst the bottles, if not, toast a glass for us.
