As the host of Canada Pride, Winnipeg invites all from across the country to join our GSRD (gender, sexual and relationship diverse) community. With a rich history of inclusion, support and recognition, Winnipeg has staged Pride annually since 1987 and was the first major North American city to elect an openly gay mayor, Glen Murray (1998-2004).
Winnipeg’s Canada Pride Week operates in an accessible, sustainable, inclusive and diverse fashion. The festival provides ASL services, family friendly areas, accessible entrances, and beverage and information tents. With sustainability as a core foundational value, the festival encourages alternative transportation, the distribution of compostable products, increased placement of recycling bins and a plastic water bottle-free event.
Pride Winnipeg respectfully recognizes that the event occurs on Treaty 1 Territory: the traditional lands of the Anishinaabeg, Cree, Dakota, and Dene Peoples, and the homeland of the Red River Métis.
The Peg is prepared to host inclusive, respectful and safe events to celebrate the 2SLGBTQ+ community for Canada’s Pride Week 2022.
