Welcome to Peg City Grub, your guide to Winnipeg's best eats.
We have a secret: Winnipeg is one of the most amazing food cities.
Just check out our roster of talented chefs, who stack up among the best in the business.
With more than 40 different ethnic groups calling Winnipeg home, we have a plethora of outstanding restaurants offering up authentic plates from around the globe.
You can wake up with a breakfast burrito; bite into a barbequed pork bánh mì sub for lunch; and carve up a grilled-to-perfection strip loin inside a slick Brazilian steakhouse for dinner.
Winnipeg’s downtown is also in the midst of a restaurant boom. New eateries like Elements, Rudy's, Pop Soda's Coffee House and Gallery and the newest location of Stella's Café & Bakery have all recently opened shop in the heart of the city. More are soon to come.
We're also home to Canada's first all-vegan burger joint, Boon Burger Cafe.
And so what if we're land-locked? Our sushi is incredible. (Wasabi, Edohei and Blüfish are a few notables.)
In Winnipeg, regional cuisine isn't just a catch phrase.
Many city chefs are avowed locavores, peppering their menus with local ingredients including pickerel, bison, wild mushrooms, wild rice, berries and grass-fed beef to name a few.
There are many fork-filled adventures to be had in all corners of the city. Pegcitygrub.com is a great place to start.
Here, you'll find: industry and chef news; restaurant reviews; hot tips on the best eats; festival food; culinary events; and insider information on hidden-gem eateries, family-friendly spots, upscale and down-home dishes, diners, drive-ins and even dives (in the best sense of the word).
If you can eat it, I will write about it.
And I want to hear from you. Tell me about your favourite foods in Winnipeg by shooting an email over to goodeats@pegcitygrub.com.
It's a big city. There's plenty to eat, so bring your appetite.
