So Mother's Day is around the corner (hint, it's next weekend) and I thought I'd put together a few ideas for places to go, things to do and stuff to buy for the most special woman in your life. This might also be a not-so-subtle hint to the Mister and Lil' Peg who may or may not be reading this.
You might think figuring out the perfect Mother's Day is hard, but let me tell you it's not. We are simple creatures--we just want to be pampered, loved and adored while you tell us how eternally grateful you are for everything we do for you and that you will never, ever take us for granted again.
That wasn't so hard was it?
But barring that... these ideas will do too:
- Gift certificate to Ten Spa, Riverstone Spa, Urban Oasis etc. You get the idea. I'd think this would a no-brainer really. Massages. Pedicures. Facials. It's the stuff mom's were made for (after we're done cleaning up after you, of course).
- Jewellery from Bijou Treasures. This little St. Boniface gem (see what I did there?) has been a favourite of mine for years. The Mister actually got my engagement ring made here by the sweet and talented owners of the shop. What I love are the more casual and completely affordable (but still stunning) pieces they offer made with colourful stones and lots of shiny things.
- Okay, I might be channelling some supreme optimism here on the weather front, but how about a picnic in Assiniboine Park? (Cause let's face it, if you haven't made reservations anywhere you, you're pretty much out of luck. Do better next year.) Pop into DeLuca's on Portage Avenue and pick up some cheese, prosciutto and Italian bread and spread out the blanket on the lawn.
- Do some cultural shopping with Mom at McNally Robinson Booksellers and let her pick out something special for herself. Hands down this is one of the best stores in the city. Obviously the books are great (another gift could be giving her the time to read them), but their gift section is to die for as well. Really, she just wants to spend time with you, so you know, go hang out.
- Show off your fancy side and take her for symphony and brunch with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra. There's tea, dainties and imported cheese followed by a concert by Beethoven. Well, not by Beethoven... I'm pretty sure he's dead, but you know, some of his music... played by some other guys.
So there are a few ideas. Don't forget the flowers and foot rubs too.
And clean your room (even if you're old enough not to live with your mom anymore). She'll appreciate it.
