Dive into fun edutainment this spring break at the Manitoba Museum!
From March 25 to April 2, daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., come experience exhibitions that will surely make waves! The Manitoba Museum will be highlighting the animals, science and fun behind this inorganic compound that covers more than 70 per cent of the Earth’s surface.

New Planetarium show
While the Planetarium often sets its sights on the stars, starting on March 22 it dives down to the tropics with The Enchanted Reef. The story follows three fish as they search for a new home after theirs is destroyed by a fishing trawler, highlighting issues like biodiversity, plastic waste, and the impact of humans on species of which you may not even be aware.
As you can see in the trailer, this multiple award-winning film takes your family on a colourful journey across a number of ocean ecosystems while introducing you to a wide range of wondrous aquatic creatures.
The Enchanted Reef plays daily at 11 a.m. and 2:45 p.m., while more Planetarium shows can be found here.
Learn about the aquatic animals around us and see science that makes a splash
Throughout the museum you’ll find plenty of incredible exhibits that feature water—from our personal favourite, the award-winning Ancient Seas in the Earth History Gallery, to of course the port where the Nonsuch is ‘anchored.’ For spring break, the curatorial team is putting the focus on the recently remodelled and expanded Prairies Gallery.
Here, you can learn about the many aquatic species in this region and beyond, while curatorial staff will be onsite to showcase bones, furs, fossils and shells that your kids can handle. There will also be more fun hands-on opportunities, like making origami frogs and peering at samples under a microscope.
Plus, there will be daily 20-minute ‘H2WOAH!’ science demonstrations every day at 11:15, 1:45 and 3 p.m. in the Auditorium.
