The first Here for It video of 2021 is all about staycation inspiration. Members of the Tourism Winnipeg team, along with their loved ones, changed up their at-home routines by staying overnight in a Winnipeg hotel and incorporating a fun activity. Here are the themes that inspired their staycations.
Hygge & Hiking
Cody and Eric chose to spend their staycation at the Hyatt House Winnipeg which just opened in 2020. It's across the street from fantastic shopping like Outlet Collection Winnipeg, Seasons of Tuxedo, and IKEA, as well as hiking spots FortWhyte Alive and Assiniboine Forest. The hotel has a variety of room options to choose from while the Spa Suite featured in the video features a spa tub, a spacious bedroom, beautiful living room, and fully equipped kitchen. This luxurious room is the perfect place to get your hygge on, a Danish word that translates to a feeling of "cozy contentment and well-being."
Mobile Dining & Mottola Grocery
Located in the heart of downtown, the Delta Winnipeg Hotel is where we find Annie and Joel spending their staycation. All BonVoy members can download the app to check-in online and use their phone as a mobile key. They can also use their phone for Delta’s mobile dining, which is like room service, but a contactless experience. With added room features such as Netflix and heated bathroom floors, The Delta Winnipeg is the perfect spot for an escape close to home. Annie and Joel also head over to the swanky Mottola Grocery and Hargrave Street Market food hall located in True North Square, where they pick up some gourmet items to take back to their room. You can learn more about Mottola Grocery through our virtual tour.
Mittens, Massage, & Movies
After a fun day of tobogganing at St. Vital Park, Alberto, Remi, and Emilio hang up their mittens for a cozy evening at the Holiday Inn Winnipeg South. This location is perfect for families; just minutes from gorgeous parks, shopping centres, and local attractions. It is also a five-minute drive from Thermea, which fully re-opens on March 5. The Holiday Inn’s rooms are spacious, and include a mini-fridge, microwave, and Keurig coffee maker. It offers a Grab & Go breakfast, as well as a 24-hour Market located in the lobby where you can purchase your favourite snacks for a fun-filled movie night.
Museums & Majestic Views
Eleanor and family chose to spend their staycation at the Radisson Hotel Winnipeg Downtown. While the whole family loved the majestic city views, the kids were especially thrilled to have their own room and TV in the spacious suite, which includes separate living, dining, and sleeping areas. There is a Starbucks located right in the lobby, which serves as a convenient spot to pick-up coffee and breakfast before a day of exploring. The hotel is just steps away from many of Winnipeg’s top museums and attractions. The Manitoba Museum, which reopens on March 4 with a fresh new look, is also offering some socially distanced programming for Spring Break. The Winnipeg Art Gallery is currently open to visitors and is gearing up for the opening celebration of Qaumajuq, the Inuit art centre, coming soon at the end of March. The Canadian Museum for Human Rights recently re-opened to the public and features many inspiring exhibits from Canada and around the globe. The Forks Market and The Common are also open to welcome guests, with most shops and food vendors open for pick-up and dine-in.
Bikes & Belgian Blondes
For our final Staycation Inspiration segment we meet up with Sarah and Arturo, who have just spent their afternoon biking from The Forks to the Mere Hotel on fat bikes. Rented from Kendrick’s Outdoor Adventures, this brand new local company wants to keep Manitobans moving and outside. They also offer snowshoe rentals. Located right in the Exchange District on Waterfront Drive, the Mere Hotel is a stylish boutique hotel that creates the perfect setting for a staycation selfie. Guest rooms include walk-in rain showers, Nespresso Coffee machines, and waterfront views. Mere is within walking and biking distance from some of Winnipeg’s best restaurants such as Clementine, Amsterdam Tea Room, Cibo Waterfront Cafe, Peasant Cookery, Cordova, and deer + almond, making it an Ideal spot for food lovers. Sarah and Arturo choose to order pick-up from Nonsuch Brewing, where the burgers and Belgian Blondes are out of this world.
