In Winnipeg, we're known for a lot of interesting things. There's our culture and our history and our winters. There are the friendly people and the beautiful architecture and the amazing culinary options. Combine all those small elements and you get something really special--Chez Sophie sur le Pont. Located on the Esplanade Riel, overlooking the Red River, it is the only restaurant on a bridge in all of North America.
It's a can't-miss attraction when you are in town.
Originally home to the diner-style Salisbury House, the French restaurateurs of the original Chez Sophie in St. Boniface recently took the space over, transforming it into a sleek and elegant spot, rich with Parisian flair.
The menu offers their usual array of cheesy, creamy and decadent offerings like croque Monsieur, delectable goat cheese salad and tartiflette. And while the food is delicious, it's the view that really makes this a noteworthy experience.
In the summer, the leafy green canopy of trees that line the riverwalk sways gently in the breeze. You can watch the boats puttering by and catch a glimpse of St. Boniface Cathedral in the skyline. In the fall, it's the perfect vantage point to watch the leaves change and in the winter, there is no better spot to enjoy the transformation of Winnipeg into a sparkling snowy wonderland.
Chez Sophie sur le Pont doesn't take reservations, so get there early. But take your time and savour the view.
